First stop was Fox Glacier which required a 1.5 hour return hike. It’s disconcerting to see how much it has receded. The word on Lake Matheson was that it’s one of the top 10 scenic lakes in the world. This is due to the beautiful views of Mt Cook in the background. We’ll never know as the Mount was well hidden under cloud. Nevertheless it was quite pleasant.
Lunch at the Fox Glacier Guiding Cafe (which probably has a special name (which I cannot recall), before heading to Franz Josef and the other Glacier. Also another 1.5 of walking was involved. We saw a bird walking around the lookout (a kea we think) and the glacier view was superior here in my opinion, although Jas preferred Fox for the walk.
Intermittent drizzle yesterday turned into heavy rain overnight and we now sit in our van at Franz Josef Top 10 Park, contemplating our next move.

We have a really good photo of the lake with mt cook. Love getting the blog xxxxxx
